Asmahen Jaloul
Asmahen Jaloul (2004, Baixada Fluminense, RJ) is a Lebanese-Brazilian artist and daughter of an immigrant. Her work seeks not only an emotional connection with her ancestors but also brings reflections and contemplations on the past with a sensitive view of the present. Through her research, she delves into sociocultural issues such as immigration processes, the construction of borders, diasporic movements, as well as the complex set of feelings that must be set aside when using the ontological term “Orientalism.” Understanding the relationship between memory, photographic documentation, and the transmission of narratives that tend to disappear.
