Chia-En Jao
Chia-En Jao works across various mediums, including video, installation, and sound. Drawing from personal experiences, he addresses political, social, and economic issues from multiple perspectives. His works often incorporate heterogeneous elements or employ contextual ruptures to challenge and critique rigid systems, as well as the values and perceptions shaped by historical, societal, public, and personal narratives.
In his recent projects, Jao explores colonial histories and the intercultural dynamics of the Asia-Pacific region, along with the conditions of artistic production within these contexts. Through this exploration, he constructs alternative interpretations of history and raises critical questions about the frameworks established by nation-states and capitalist economies.
