Daniel Nicolaevsky Maria

Daniel Nicolaevsky Maria, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1991, lives and works in Paris. Visual artist and performer, he dialogues with painting, installation, and performance. He uses bedframes recovered from the streets, walls, digital art, and his body as subjects and supports for his research, in a practice that explores the notions of circulation, belonging, and attachment.

A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris (2020, Huynh + Closky) passing through CalArts (2018) in California, Daniel sets up plural poetic devices aimed at questioning a complex history in which the representations of bodies on the margins of society, are often limiting. These emancipatory, radical, and dreamlike works allow him to anchor his practice of resilience in an exponential human transmutation.

He has exhibited and performed in several international art centers: Center Pompidou (Paris), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Center National de la Danse (Pantin), Sogetsu Art Center (Tokyo) and Rio Art Museum (Brazil). And his work is included in several prestigious collections such as that of Société Générale and Altarea.
In 2019, he won the Amis des Beaux-Arts Prize and the GIDE Prize in 2020. In 2021 he won the Crédit Agricole x Clique TV Révèle ton Talent competition in the Urban Art category, and in 2022 he has won the Dream Big Grow Fast Foundation prize.
