Evita Vasiljeva

Evita Vasiljeva is a Latvian artist based in Amsterdam. Vasiljeva works primarily in sculpture and installation, creating objects by re-cycling and re-purposing materials used predominantly in construction work, as well as devices such as old, (un)functioning electronics, and other relics dug out from the urban landscape. Their meaning and role appear cryptic, and open to various interpretations. These rigid bodies both metaphorically and literally cement a stage for further interactions in-between themselves and visitors’ gaze. Evita Vasiljeva was at the artist residency at De Ateliers in Amsterdam (2014-2016). Recent exhibitions have taken place in: Movement detectors, potatoes, lamps, Salon de Normandy by the Community 2020 Edition, (2020, France); Same door, different street, Roots to Routes, Marseille, (2020, France); Impulse (J or Imp), Survival Kit 11, (2020, Latvia); Riga Notebook.
