Garance Butler-Oliva

Through installation and sculpture, Garance Butler-Oliva is interested in patience and slowness, proposing forms whose experience runs counter to speed and societal temporal optimization. Like memorials preserving the memory of an increasingly inaccessible temporality, on the verge of being lost. She attempts to reach these long times by inviting contemplation. Through forms that reveal themselves only slowly, because the spectator dedicates herself to them. Raised in a Franco-Israeli family, she draws her inspiration from Judaic places and rituals that impose silence or contemplation. By questioning spaces such as the mamad or Israeli political dynamics, she attempts to bring about a decolonial Jewish reflection.
