Grégoire Schaller
Grégoire Schaller is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is at the intersection of dance, performance, photography, and video. His projects, which link bodies to archetypal figures such as the bodybuilder, the matador and the cowboy, explore our relationship with death and loss, the pressure to conform to body norms and the construction of dominant narratives.
Produced by the Lava company, which he co-founded with choreographer Anna Chirescu, his works have been presented at the Centre Pompidou, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Palais de Tokyo, the MAC VAL, the Ménagerie de Verre, the Villa Noailles, Ballroom Marfa (TX, USA) and the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Tirana (AL).
At the Fondation Fiminco, Grégoire Schaller will continue his research project, which combines fieldwork with performance and visual art, and which he began several years ago. His project, entitled Voices from the void, explores the transformation of urban areas through a dual documentary and performative approach. It will take the form of a constant back-and-forth between collecting photographic, video and gestural traces of the urban and social landscape of Romainville, and a visual reinterpretation of this material through performance and imagery.
