Isaac Lythgoe

Isaac Lythgoe graduated from the Royal College of Art, London in 2014. Working predominantly in sculpture his practise operates as an exercise of narrative nonfiction, a facts told as story approach. He takes on the role of both investigator and narrator, a sort of film noir detective. Research focussed in conflated power structures, current affairs, science fiction and theory, identifies information and events with the potential for future, cultural relevance. These ideas translate into complex, allegorical works, often augmenting contrasting ideas, references and materials. The artist’s practise is world building, and works interrelate and self-reference with the mandate of emphasising these core themes. Characters borrowed or invented, intertwine with modern myths and each other, they reflect the intangibility of self in contemporary society and seek out modes with which we can relate to the vastness of modern industry, its motivations, corruptions and future potentials. Love, romance, death and desire all compete for positions in this hierarchical structure. Recent solo exhibitions include Super Dakota, Brussels (2020) Liste, Basel (2019) Piktogram, Warsaw (2019) ExoExo, Paris (2018) and recent group shows include Noah Klink, Berlin (2020) Berthold Pott, Cologne (2019) Michael Jackson on the Wall, National Portrait Gallery, London, Grand Palais, Paris (2018).
