Sherin Guirguis

Sherin Guirguis’s practice uplifts lost, forgotten and erased histories, particularly those of women and femmes, currently focusing on histories of the RemenKeemi peoples of Egypt. She explores various media, from ritually cut paper to monumental sculptures, engaging in dialogue with culturally significant sites. Her work reclaims ritual objects rooted in Egyptian and North African cultures, her ancestral land of origin.

Her work has been exhibited in Mexico, Germany, UK, UAE, Italy, Egypt & the US, including solo exhibitions at Honolulu Museum of Art, Minnesota Museum of American Art, Craft Contemporary & Tahrir Cultural Center in Cairo.  She has created site-specific commissions in Egypt at the Pyramid Plateau in Giza, Desert X Coachella Valley & Al Ula & for the Metro K Line in Los Angeles.

Collections include the Museum of Contemporary Art LA, LA County Museum of Art, Orange County Museum of Art & Houston Museum of Fine Art. ARTFORUM, Hyperallergic, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, Wallpaper, Architectural Digest, Flash Art, Brownbook & Canvas have covered her art. Her awards include a Sam Francis Foundation Fellowship, Andy Warhol Foundation Award, USC Zumberge Award, USC ASHSS Sabbatical Award, California Community Foundation Artist Fellowship & COLA fellowship through the City of LA Cultural Affairs.
