Perceptions of the city

For this project in collaboration with the Fondation Fiminco and the Département of Seine-Saint-Denis, Younes Ben Slimane proposed a project based on architecture and the appropriation of everyday urban structures and geographies to a ULIS class from the Liberté secondary school in Drancy.

During the first session, the pupils were able to meet Younès and discover his work on traditional Tunisian architecture and techniques. Through a visit to the Cité de l'Architecture and discussions with the artist, the pupils discovered the goal of the project: creating a small-scale city by making models.

The second session was organised as an introductory workshop to 2D model modelling, using paper constructions. The pupils were then able to sketch out their models using cardboard, scotch tape, fabric, leather, etc. The following sessions were devoted to finalising and assembling the models in an exhibition space.

The final event took place on 31 May 2024, with an exhibition of the students' work in the middle of the The Logic of Places exhibition. For one day, visitors to the exhibition were able to discover the project's results at the same time as the end-of-residency exhibition!
