Nile Koetting
Nile Koetting is an artist based in Tokyo and Berlin. His artistic practice explores a new perception of dramaturgy in a biodiverse atmosphere of performative time and space. Having grown up in Japan, his work reflects the complex contradictions and transformations of its contemporary culture, its rapid technological developments within a society deeply rooted in an animistic worldview.
During his residency at the Fondation Fiminco, Nile Koetting aims to create a new body of works based on research into the history of the audience in the theatre, particularly in nineteenth-century Parisian opera houses and their relationship with the Claqueurs - professional applauders. Combining nineteenth-century Parisian impressionism with today's data saturated landscapes and the history of the Claqueurs, the artist renders an alternative view of reality and its manipulation.
